Smita Thackeray To Join Congress!

In an interview to a newspaper, Smita said she was planning to join the Congress. The news was also confirmed by the Congress. “Smita Thackeray is on her way to joining the Congress,” party spokesperson Hussain Dalwai said here today.

However, no date has been fixed for her joining. There is speculation that the party might give Smita Thackeray a senior post just to score a few points over the Shiv Sena.

Wife of Bal Thackeray's estranged son Jaidev, Smita had set tongues wagging after she continued to use the famous surname even after the breakup of her marriage.

However, the ascent of Uddhav Thackeray in the Sena resulted in Smita being marginalised. She confirmed in the interview what was being said in party circles for long - that she was upset at being denied a Rajya Sabha seat that went to journalist Bharat Kumar Raut.
