Described as chr('8220')The Biggest Entertainerchr('8221'), there were doubts among many moviegoers if the film would live up to the expectation. In my opinion, it has. I was cracking up out loud almost every 2 minutes or so. The story is nothing new, but itchr('8217')s the direction, the screenplay, and the performances that make the film worth watching.
Arjun Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) and Pyare Mohan (Govinda) are two cops. They care for each other but sometimes have a hard time getting along. Pyare and Seema (Raveena Tandon), who is Arjun Singhchr('8217')s sister, love each other. Arjun Singh doesnchr('8217')t approve since he thinks that Pyare is a flirt. Arjun and Pyare come across Neha (Ramaiya) who is a witness to her friendchr('8217')s murder, which was committed by Jorawar (Paresh Rawal). Neha says on the phone that shechr('8217')ll only talk to Pyare Mohan about the incident since Pyare was the person her friend was mentioning. Due to circumstances Arjun has to lie to Neha and tell her that he is Pyare. Then Pyare has to pretend he is Arjun Singh. Neha begins to love Arjun, later Arjun returns the love, and the whole confusion is sorted out.
Just before intermission two thieves, Bade Miyan (Amitabh Bachchan #2) and Chote Miyan (Govinda #2) make their entry into the film. The second half is full of misunderstandings between the two cops and the two thieves. When Bade Miyan Chote Miyan commit a crime the police commissioner (Anupam Kher) thinks Arjun and Pyare have done the deed. Rest of the film is how Pyare and Arjun try to catch Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
Amitabh gives a good performance; he handles the comedy nicely. Govinda is terrific. His voice for Chote Miyan is very effective. The heroines donchr('8217')t have much scope; Ramaiya has a bigger part than Raveena one can say. Raveena looks great as usual, Ramaiya has lost a little weight since Banarasi Babu, but it would help if she lost some more. The supporting cast does a wonderful job. Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher dance pretty good in chr('8220')Assi Chutki Nabbe Taalchr('8230')chr('8221') Madhuri in her special appearance was good. The crowd went wild during the chr('8220')Makhnachr('8221') song.
The film has many hilarious moments. Some are unforgettable. For example, the kabbaddi part. The first half is chr('8220')inspiredchr('8221') as they say nowadays from the Hollywood hit Bad Boys. As any David Dhawan film, the film has no message, itchr('8217')s made for entertainment, which the film has plenty of. If you go watch the film to be entertained, I guarantee you will be. The songs are picturized in typical David Dhawan style. The wordings for chr('8220')Assi Chutki Nabbe Taalchr('8221') are changed around a little, God knows why. The costumes are VERY colorful.
The bottom line is go see the film if you want to get a good laugh, donchr('8217')t go if you want to watch a serious film with some sort of message to be delivered.
