Rakesh Roshan´s tale, Khoon Bhari Maang, is the story of a woman who takes revenge on her husband for trying to kill her. The vicious tale of the man who tried to push his wife into the jaws of death in a lake with crocodiles still remains a classic after all these years.

The film is about Aarti (Rekha) who lives with her two kids, her naukar (A.K. Hangal), and her Mama (Kader Khan). Her husband (played by Rakesh Roshan himself) passed away in a plane crash and ever since that she has been a single mother. Enter Sanjay (Kabir Bedi), Kader Khan´s educated, handsome and single nephew who Kader Khan wants Aarti to marry so he can have all the inheritance after Aarti´s dad passes away (also a ploy of Kader Khan). Sanjay has a girlfriend Nandini (Sonu Walia), with help from her and Kader Khan, Aarti and Sanjay come close and eventually she agrees to marry Sanjay because she feels this will be the best for her kids.

After their marriage Aarti seems much happier and life is just blessed again for her. One day Sanjay, Nandini and Aarti all decide to go hunting. On their rafting in a river Sanjay sees the perfect opportunity for him to bump Aarti off as he sees a crocodile! And just when it is close enough he pushes Aarti into the jaws of death.

Does the story end there? Does Sanjay get all the money? NO! Since her body can´t be found Aarti´s lawyer tells Sanjay you have to wait till her body is found, until then he gets nothing.

In the meantime, Aarti has been saved by a fisherman who has stitched her face up. She vows to take revenge. She gets plastic surgery done, goes back to her hometown and becomes a model. Sanjay sees her again and there begins Aarti´s revenge as he is smitten by her beauty!

Performance wise the film belongs to two people: Rekha and Kabir Bedi! Rekha as Aarti is just flawless and this is one of her best performance ever! In the first half as the shy and not so sexy Aarti she is excellent and after the plastic surgery as the model and femme fatale she is excellent too. Some scenes show that we are watching an actress of a very high calibre here. Just witness the scene where Rekha first sees her face after the accident or the climax as she battles Sanjay!

She won the Filmfare award for best actress for this film. Kabir Bedi as the handsome NRI Sanjay is immaculate also. He is perfect in the first half as the nice and caring dude and in the second as the sadistic child beater. He has very expressive eyes! Kader Khan does his part well as do Sulbha Deshpande, A.K. Hangal and Mangal Dhillon. Sonu Walia performs aptly as well. Rakesh Roshan´s guest role as Rekha´s husband and Shatrughan Sinha as Rekha´s friends are all appreciable.

Technically the film is great and Rajesh Roshan’s tunes are good also. Hanste Hanste Kat Jaye Raaste is repeated throughout the film in many versions and each version is great and perfectly timed. Jeene Ke Bahane Laakho Hai and Main Teri Hoon Jaanam are also great!

Direction wise Rakesh Roshan is at his creative best here! He extracts some of the best performances out from his cast! He took a risk by having the male lead in a guest role and the second lead Kabir as the villain. He makes a perfect female oriented film here and the title suits the film aptly: Khoon Bhari Maang! Overall, this film demands repeat viewing.
