Nagin is a classic blockbuster directed by big shot director of that time Raj Kumar Kohli who specialised in making multi-starrers with a supernatural theme.

The story of the film is simple. It starts off with Sunil Dutt going hunting and there he runs into Jeetendra who he starts asking about "ichadari naags". After 1000 years these naags can change forms. Jeetendra claims he has seen one and to come on Amavas Ki Raat to see them in human form, Sunil agrees and right before his eyes he sees one turn into a snake. Sunil goes back to his friends who laugh at him, but all turn up there on Amavas. That night they all witness the snakes in human form. By accident Anil Dhavan shoots Jeetendra and kills him. All of them now freak out as the myth goes that if a "ichadari naag" is murdered his wife goes after all those involved in the murder and kills them off one by one as she will see his killers in his eyes. Funnily enough it happens and Reena Roy vows to take revenge whether she is in snake or human form. Hence begins the story as Reena slowly takes revenge on them all one by one killing them off and she will not rest till her revenge is taken. Simple story but an awesome star cast, cool special effects for its time and a different plot make it watch able.

Performance wise the film has a lot of good performances from the multi-star cast but only Sunil Dutt stands out as he has the main role. Feroz Khan also does his part well, and the rest consisting of Kabir Bedi, Sanjay Khan, Anil Dhavan, and Vinod Mehra do their part well also. From the females it is Reena Roy´s flick all the way and she has more footage than the heroes. The film is pretty much about her and she does well as the avenging Nagin. Other female leads like Rekha, Mumtaz, Yogeeta Bali, Neelam Mehra and Prema Narayan don´t have much to do except look pretty and they do that well.

Direction wise Kohli does a marvellous job with a supernatural theme even though it is a revenge film. The film plays like a Hollywood “slasher” flick as the Nagin kills them off one by one. He was definitely a director to reckon with in his prime and Nagin was just the start of his hit list. He was also technically sound. He shows his brilliance as a director and as a sound technician in many scenes. Ones that stick to mind are: The scene where Reena first kills Anil Dhavan; All the scenes where she transforms into someone else and fools the lads and the climax with Sunil Dutt hanging off a building holding a kid as the snake approaches.

Technically the film is also sound for its time. The film has a city setting and has a very slick look to it. The special effects in comparison to today´s standards are nothing, but for its time it´s well done. All the scenes where the Nagin transforms from a snake into human form and then back again are well done. The background music is pretty creepy too, especially after she kills a victim.

Music in the film is pretty good too; none of the songs stay in mind, but while watching the film you can definitely sit through the songs.

Overall the flick is definitely one too own. It can be watched again for the cool cast, theme and the overall product of the movie.

Kohli is supposedly making a modern remake of this film now titled Jaani Dushman (name of another hit supernatural horror by Kohli). The modern version also has a multicast of Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Sharad Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Rajat Bedi, Manisha Koirala and many more, lets see how he does considering his last flick Qahar was utter trash!
