The soundtrack begins with Alka Yagnik´s flawless rendition of Dheere Se. The song falls into a fusion genre, as a folk song is put to modern music! The traditional melody and beats eventually become irritating and can force the listener to reach for the forward button. In a soundtrack aimed at the youth (and almost all youth are obsessed with being "hip"), Dheere Se will definitely not find many takers. "Badalon Ki Oant Mein" appears twice in KYON?, one sung by Asha Bhosle, and the other by Bhupen Hazarika. Asha is given the more upbeat version. (Although with the kind of lyrics this song can offer, how much more upbeat can one get!) Although she sounds majestic, Asha´s version loses to Harzarika´s. Hazarika´s haunting vocals raise the song to new heights. The song is placed most likely for the dramatic moments of the movie, but seems too grim for repeat listens. Lyrically, the song is first-rate. KK, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam, and lesser-heard Dominique shine in the techno-styled Tadak Tadak. This song can be added to the hundred other songs about youth rebellion, but is one of the rare Bollywood disco songs that actually has dance-techno music! The lyrics are basic. KK sounds bland and Sonu Nigam is terrible with whatever few lines he sings. Sunidhi suits the techno genre perfectly! As for Dominique, Tadak Tadak makes it loud and clear that she should be singing a lot more songs! Thank god for small mircales! Asha Bhosle is back in Jaa Re Jaa and creates the same magic she did in Kambakht Ishq and Khallas! This item number´s precise composition will have you busting a movie in no time! Jaa Re Jaa is a wonderful example of Hazarika´s versitility as a music director! Rave Music! Indeed, this instrumental piece is authentic and is the perfect follow up to Jaa Re Jaa. Don´t be surprised if you find yourself listening to this one over and over again! Another song about jawan khoon and rebellion is, Sun Le Sara Jahan. KK does his best to breathe life into the redundant lyrics, and succeeds to some extent. Composition-wise, Hazarika´s made a hat-trick! The music alone makes this song worth multiple listens! Aise Koi Jaata Hai is the film´s only song that leaves the listener completely satisfied! KK has never sounded better. The pain in his voice truly touches the listener; this is award-winning quality singing! Prasoon Joshi´s lyrics are amazing and full of emotion! Bhupen Hazarika does it again! Though the music reminds you Kehna Hai from Mann, (no, Hazarika has not stooped low enough to copy Sanjeev-Darshan) his instrument arrangement gives the song a revitalizing freshness! This gives new meaning to saving the best for last! Not once does one imagine that he/she is listening to a Bhupen Hazarika soundtrack! He has been able to produce songs that are contemporary and gel with modern youth! Songs like Jaa Re Jaa, the rave music, and of course Aise Koi Jaata Haiwill not disappoint. In the end, one wishes that such songs would get the promotion they deserve! Not bad at all... |
