This is the first Jatin-Lalit major album after their big hit in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Khamoshi is another big budget movie, starring Salman Khan, Manisha Koirala, Seema Biswas (of Bandit Queen fame), and Nana Patekar. Khamoshi has eight songs by J-L and two by the star of "Humma Humma" from Bombay, Remo Fernandez. The two by Remo are overshadowed by J-L's brilliant scores.

The album starts off with Manisha Koirala's beautiful voice saying a dialogue from the movie which I presume will be before the first song, "Bahon Ke Darmiyan". "Bahon Ke Darmiyan" is an outstanding number by Hariharan and Alka Yagnik. The music gives the song a beautiful, old, yet new touch. Unlike some other modern pop songs (like "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya" from Yaarana and "Dil Mera Churaya Kyun" from Akele Hum Akele Tum), this song doesn't feel like it was copied or derived from another song. Hariharan gives a different, soothing touch to the song, Alka Yagnik is still at the peek of her career and should have a good chance at the Filmfare in 1996. "Huiya Ho" is a boring number by Remo Fernandez. The typical beats and music of a pop artist bore the ears. "Aankon Main Kya" turns out to be an average song. Hints of late R.D. Burman's music pop up in bits and pieces in the song. Kumar Sanu renders it averagely, nothing close to his best. "Gaathe The Pehle Akele" is an above average number, sung by the current numero uno, Kavita Krishnamurty, Shraddha, and Khusnum. The music is superb, Krishnamurty shows her talent off but the two kids aren't as impressive although the music makes up for them.

The next song is the best of Jatin-Lalit since "Pehla Nasha" from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. The music perfect, the singing is perfect, and the lyrics are perfect. "Jana Suno Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain" is a perfect number rendered by Udit Narayan. Narayan is perfect for the song, with his light, different voice. The background music is tailored perfectly so that the song flows with ease. Narayan is lucky to pick up songs like this and "Ghar Se Nikalte Hi", two guaranteed hits in Bollywood.

"Aaj Main Upar" sung by Kavita Krishnamurty and Kumar Sanu is another above average number. Krishnamurty as well as Sanu deliver their beautiful vocals again. Another successful attack at the music. Another number by Krishnamurty follows. "Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai" is another example of the beautiful style of Krishnamurty. Her high classical vocals and J-L's music just give the right touch for this song. "Saagar Kinare Do Dil Hai Pyase" starts out with a different style for Jatin-Lalit, reminiscing of "Muqabla Muqabla" from Humse Hai Muqabla. Jatin sings the first verse of the song but right when one might be about to fast forward it, the whole song changes into J-L's normal style and Udit Narayan's vocals take over. This song turns out to be one of the better ones of the album. J-L's music is superb and Naryan's singing supplements it. "Mausam Ki Sargam Ko" rendered by Kavita Krishnamurty and Shraddha delivers as another part of the success of this album. The idea of a daughter and a mother singing is present. For some reason it sounds like a take off a Tilda Basmati commercial, but isn't half as annoying. J-L's music is once again superb. The motif of the album is present but there are the beautiful notes of the piano being played in intervals. Krishnamurty is once again outstanding, Shraddha is good for the part of a child.

Khamoshi is another outstanding album by Jatin-Lalit and they show that they have a great future in front of them along with composers like Anu Malik and A.R. Rahman. This album actually guarantees a place in Bollywood for a long while.
