Gopal K Singh started his journey as an actor in 1997 and since then, he has been a part of numerous films, television shows and theatrical plays. The actor was also seen in Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Andhadhun’ and Gautam Singh’s ‘Gaon – The Village No More’, in which he played the antagonist. In his first digital show ‘Abhay, which premiered recently on Zee5, he was seen playing a man who kidnaps and murders children.
Talking about the show, he says “Working on ‘Abhay’ was a great experience. I had earlier worked with B.P Singh on his TV shows and it was great collaborating with him again. The show has been made on a huge scale and directed by Kookie Gulati and Ken Ghosh who have directed films. The episode I did was inspired from the Nithari killings which happened in Noida in 2006. Surinder Koli and his servant Moninder Singh Pandher used to kidnap children, abuse them and murder them. The characters which Deepak Tijori and I played in the episode were based on them. It was quite challenging to play the part. We were shooting with children and I had to make sure that they felt comfortable during the shoot as we were talking about a very disturbing incident.
The actor has played a variety of roles and is known for his versatility. However, in the recent times, he has mostly been seen portraying negative roles.
“I have been fortunate enough to have got the opportunity to play different kind of roles but it has been a while since I played a positive role. I am extremely happy with the response to Abhay but I also hope to play a positive character now”, he says on a parting note.
