Phamous – Music Review

One does not really expect a great soundtrack from a film which does not have A-listers and is a ‘guns-and-blood’ based drama set in the heartland of the country. However, the presence of well-known musical talents like Krsna Solo, Vishal Dadlani, Jubin Nautiyal and Jonita Gandhi in the album gets you interested to a certain extent.

The most recognised composer on the album opens it with “Bandook”, a track which exemplifies the action and violence in the film. Vishal Dadlani sings the song with gusto and his spirited rendition coupled with the pulsating energy of the track makes you sit through it. The tune is strictly okay but Puneet Sharma spruces it up with some feisty words that gel pretty well with the aggressive tenor of the song. This one should make a better impression visually.

A whiff of romance arrives in the form of “Dil Beparwah”, sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Jonita Gandhi. Composers Sundeep Gosswami and Surya Vishwakarma put together a tune which is far from being extraordinary but is sufficiently engaging. The lyrics (Naveen Tyagi) are simple and pleasant. The singers do a good job but Jubin gets the pronunciation of a few words wrong. He pronounces saanvare as saavare and daanv as daav.

“Titri” is a rather poor attempt at an item number. If the idea behind incorporating this song was to add some spice in the promotion of the film, then the makers do not succeed in their intention at all. Where the song succeed is getting the rustic vibe right and the lyrics (Puneet Sharma) help greatly in that regard. The composition (Sundeep Gosswami) is largely forgettable but vocalist Priyanka Negi does add some spark to the song with her effervescence rendition.

‘Phamous’ has a fairly functional soundtrack which actually delivers slightly more than what one had expected of it.
