Ajay Devgn turned 50 today. 50 also happens to be the screen age of the character he plays in the new Luv Ranjan and T-Series produced film ‘De De Pyaar De’. It is very rare to see male superstars playing their age in films. At the least, the characters they play are a decade younger to them. Hence, it is refreshing to see Ajay Devgn play his age. In fact, considering the fact that this film was shot a year back, he actually agreed to play somebody who is a year older to him.
The film shows Ashish’s (Ajay Devgn) relationship with a young woman (Rakul Preet), whom he falls in love with and his ex-wife (Tabu). He also has a family, which is largely indifferent towards him, to deal with. While he does not see anything wrong about him falling in love with a woman who is his daughter’s age, convincing his family about the same will be a herculean task.
Unlike a lot of other films, which we have seen dealing with this subject, ‘De De Pyaar De’ uses humour in large doses. The kind of humour, used in the film, seems to be in a similar mould as the kind used in Luv Ranjan’s films. The character, which Ajay plays, is reminiscent of the one he played in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji’. However, the two films seemed to be quite dissimilar to each other. It is always nice to see Tabu in an out-and-out commercial setup, something which does not happen very often. Rakul Preet has been doing very well in the Telugu film industry. This seems to be the kind of films that might help her propel her career forward in Hindi cinema.
