Filmmakers Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee are not only renowned for churning out content-rich films based on human relationships under their banner Windows Production, but they are also known for directing only one film a year.
However, this year the audience is in for a treat, as for the first time, the talented filmmakers, who have made a mark not just within the Bengali diaspora but across the country, have directed two films in 2019.
After leaving us literally speechless with the beautiful and heart-warming film Konttho, which is still running successfully at theatres even after completing six weeks, Nandita and Shiboprosad are ready with their next film Gotro.
The directors, who have earlier delivered critically acclaimed and successful films like Accident, Muktodhara, Alik Sukh, Ramdhanu, Belaseshe, Praktan, Haami, and more recently Konttho, have launched the logo for Gotro along with announcing its release in August.
While this writer-director duo is tight-lipped about the project and has not even revealed the star cast of the film yet, the logo and the title of the film is a clear indication that Shiboprosad and Nandita have once again touched upon a socially relevant issue. Gotro revolves around searching for the true identity of a human being. Is it their religion or caste, or is it humanity? In these politically charged times, this movie is sure to raise very pertinent questions.
Speaking about the film Shiboprosad Mukherjee said, “It will be another moving human story just like our other films, but I cannot tell anything more about the film. It’s in the production stage and we expect to release it around Janmasthami in August since there is a strong connection with the birthday of Lord Krishna.”
Gotro, like all their other films, will be produced by their banner – Windows Production. Interestingly, the production house is also set to release another multi-starrer film during Puja. It reunites the blockbuster Belasheshe cast in a new family drama titled Belashuru.
