With steady collections flowing in for the film over the film and it collecting in the range of Rs. 4.15 crores on Monday, ‘Marjaavaan’ is all set to be a good success. Whether the film gets a clean hit status or not is something we will get to know by the end of its first week run. But one thing is for certain – it will bring in good profits for everybody who has put money into it. While it will be director Milap Milan Zaveri’s second success in a row after ‘Satyameva Jayate’, this will be lead actor Sidharth Malhotra’s first success since ‘Kapoor & Sons’ which arrived way back in 20116.
What is important to note here is that the film is performing very well in the mass circuits. It has found appreciation in B and C centres, that is, the single-screen theatres in small towns. In today’s times, most Bollywood filmmakers are making films that cater to the urban audience and have little to offer to people living in the interiors of the country. Even the films which are set in small towns have the kind of narrative that appeal to the city-based audience and not to the ones residing in small towns and smaller cities.
‘Marjaavaan’ has registered the best ratio of business from single-screens. While around 70% of the collections of the film has come from multiplexes, single-screens have contributed to roughly 30% of the film’s business. The makers of the film should feel a sense of joy about the fact that the film has struck a chord with a set of audience which remains largely different to most of the Hindi films releasing in a year.
