Though director Sriram Raghavan’s last film ‘Badlapur’ was his first commercial hit, his other films ‘Ek Haseena Thi’ and ‘Johnny Gaddar’ have a sizeable fan following today. ‘Agent Vinod’ is probably his only that neither managed to impress the critics nor the audience. The director has managed to build a brand for himself –he mostly makes thrillers which have twisted characters and dark humour. Having said that, each of his films has been different from the other and he has managed to tell a new story every time. His new film ‘Andhadhun’, the trailer of which dropped recently, seems to be firmly entrenched in the kind of sensibilities he has brought to the fore with his cinema till now.
The trailer, which has a duration of exactly two minutes, shows a blind and spirited musician manouvering through life while carrying some secrets of his own. There are two ladies (Tabu and Radhika Apte) who are an integral part of his everyday life. A crime happens in his presence and the police prods him to come out with some information that might help them in solving the case.
The trailer does a good job at giving one a hint about what the plot could be but very smartly keeps the key details under wraps. Is he really blind or is he bluffing? Did she commit the crime or did she not? The film throws up several possibilities and it would it be interesting to see how the narrative plays out. ‘Andhadhun’ looks like yet another winner from Sriram Raghavan.
