Anees Bazmee is one of the most successful Hindi film directors of our times. Though he had had his share of failures (‘Hulchul’, ‘Sandwich’, ‘No Problem’, ‘Thank You’), he has one of the best track records for any director working in the industry today. With hits, super-hits and blockbusters like ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’, ‘Deewangee’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’, ‘Ready’ and ‘Welcome Back’, he has proved himself to be man who knows the pulse of the masses. Though he has dabbled in romance and thriller as well, he is best known for his comedies and ‘Pagalpanti’ looks exactly like the kind of film which the mass audience expects out of him.
‘Pagalpanti’ is a comedy and has an ensemble cast comprising of John Abraham, Ileana D’Cruz, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda and Urvashi Rautela. John is the biggest name in the film (in terms of current commercial standing) and he has delivered one of the biggest successes of his career (‘Welcome Back’) with Bazmee. Actors like Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla has a very good sense of comic timing and are expected to bring the house at least with a few scenes. The first trailer of the film was decent while the second one was better and had a couple of funny scenes and lines from the film.
‘Pagalpanti’ is a commercial comedy film which is aimed at the family audience. Though there is buzz for the film, it is not very high. Having said that, the star cast, led by John Abraham, is good and thus, one expects a double-digit opening for the film. It must be remembered that ‘Welcome Back’ had opened to Rs. 14.35 crores which was a huge number for a solo John Abraham film back then. If the opening day strikes a ten, it would be a good enough result for the film.
