Ashutosh Gowariker is known to make long films; films that encompass a story that cannot be told within two hours. Out of the eight films he has made so far, three (‘Lagaan’, ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ and ‘Mohenjo Daro’) have been historicals. Gowariker’s last three films (‘What’s Your Raashee?’, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ and ‘Mohenjo Daro’) were major commercial failures. But, the box-office outcome of those films did not dampen his spirits and he is back to making movies and revisiting the past.

As the title suggests, ‘Panipat’ is the story of the Battle of Panipat, the third Battle of Panipat, to be specific. There is detailing in every frame of the trailer. Apart from the three principal characters, Sadashiv Rao Bhau (Arjun Kapoor), Parvati Bai (Kriti Sanon) and Ahmad Shah Abdail (Sanjay Dutt), the trailer also gives one a good glimpse into the characters portrayed by Mohnish Bahl, Padmini Kolhapure, Suhasini Mulay and Kunal Kapoor. One also gets to see a tiny glimpse of Zeenat Aman.

A lot of people had issues with ‘Mohenjo Daro’s’ trailer itself and the excitement to watch the film was never really there. This time, Ashutosh and his team have definitely got a good trailer in place and now, the next step is to roll out the kind of promotional material that would continue to generate interest among the audience.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the film will prove to be a major comeback for Ashutosh Gowariker.
