2024 was an important year for Anwesshaa. Apart from releasing a bunch of songs as a singer, lyricist and composer, Anwessha took her first steps into the world of acting, an art form she had not tried out earlier.
While she worked on her maiden acting project last year, the audience will get to see it this year and give a verdict on her skills as an actor. Anwesshaa also expects 2025 to be an eventful year for her as the audience will get to hear a lot of interesting music, across different genres, featuring her.
How was 2024, as a year, for you?
2024 was a mixed bag. It started with some releases in Bengali and Telugu. A few independent songs I had sung in Telugu also came out. I dubbed a couple of songs in Hindi. I also completed a project in which I have played the lead role as an actor.
When you look back at 2024, do you feel regretful about anything?
There are no regrets as such. Of course, when you have a habit of setting goals, you aspire for a few things. I set goals but I don’t put any pressure on myself. If some goal remains unachieved, I don’t feel sad about it. I focus on the steps and initiatives I can take. Worrying about results, in my opinion, is a waste of energy.
Sometimes, a film you had sung a really good song for gets shelved. At times, a song goes unnoticed because of not being promoted adequately. Even when things don’t turn out the way you had imagined them to be, you should be happy about going through that process. If I have to point out something, I will say that I wish I had travelled a little bit last year. While I keep travelling for work all the time, I have not taken a vacation in a long time. I have been working day and night. I hope to take a vacation soon.
What was the highlight for you in 2024?
I don’t pick and choose my work or try to analyse what worked better for me. However, I am glad that I have given acting a shot with ‘Humsaaz – The Musical’. The film has been directed by Soumyajit Ganguly and produced by Biocine. This year would mark the beginning of my acting endeavours. This is a craft I never thought I will get into. After trying it out, I got to know how difficult it is. I am happy that the first film I have acted in is a musical. It has many songs. That is one of the reasons why I enjoyed working on it so much. As an actor, I hope to explore other genres in the near future. Along with the trailer, we have released multiple songs from ‘Humsaaz – The Musical’. The film releases on 21st February in the theatres. I am looking forward to seeing how the audience reacts to it
Do you have any plans in place for this year?
I want to travel a lot. I love being around mountains. I want to be close to nature again. Our generation is constantly in a rat race. We forget to take oxygen. Sometimes, short breaks can act as oxygen. It has been more than two years since I travelled properly. My YouTube channel has been doing very well. I wish for it to grow further. I want to upload original music on it much more frequently.
What kind of music can we look forward to from you this year?
2025 will mark a turning point in my career. The release of ‘Humsaaz – The Musical’ will make 2025 a special year for me. Along with the film, its music, too, has shaped up very well. The music of the film has a mix of pop and classical elements. I sung a song for a major Bengali film called ‘Binodiini – Ekti Natir Upakhyan’ which released recently. It was directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee and was a biopic on Binodini Dasi, one of the legendary theatre artists in Bengal. I recorded two songs for Himesh (Reshammiya) ji a while back. They should be used in his upcoming films. I have also dubbed a song for Javed – Mohsin. I have sung a beautiful song for Satish Chakravarthy ji in Tamil. As a lyricist, I have worked on a web series called ‘GOAT’ featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead role. It will come out on Jio Hotstar soon. The songs for this series have been composed by Akshay Menon. Shaan da has sung one of the songs. I recently recorded a song for a Hindi film which has been composed by Anupam Roy.
