After making his acting debut with a very popular youth-based show on television, Amit Sadh went on to star several popular TV shows of the day, including the first season of ‘Bigg Boss’, and was one of the most well-recognised TV stars for a couple of years. Soon after his stint on ‘Bigg Boss’, the actor packed off his bags to do an acting course at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
When he got back to India to try his luck in the movies, things turned out to be quite difficult. After a false start with films like ‘Phoonk 2’ and ‘Maximum’, the actor got his breakthrough role in ‘Kai Po Che’. After the success of the film, Sadh signed several films and it seemed that it was the beginning of a journey to stardom. As luck would have it, some of the film he had signed had a delayed release (‘Running Shaadi’) while some (‘Yaara’, ‘Saat Kadam’ and a romantic comedy with Evelyn Sharma) are yet to see the light of the day.
His role in Sultan proved to be a shot-in-the-arm for him and his career what with the Salman Khan starrer introducing him to a large gamut of audience who were not familiar with the actor’s past work. The stupendous success of the film rubbed off on him too and soon, one saw him in a bunch of other films such as ‘Sarkar 3’ and ‘Raag Desh’. Though these films could not really set the box-office on fire, it saw him collaborate with filmmakers and actors of repute. His performance, too, was lauded by those who saw these films.
2018 turned out to be an important year for him. After proving his mettle as an actor on television and cinema, he moved to digital, a medium which every other actor seeks to explore these days. ‘Breathe’, Prime Video’s (earlier known as Amazon Prime) first Indian fiction series, was a thriller that had him playing the role of a troubled but diligent police officer. The widely watched show got him accolades from different quarters and many believed that the talented actor was finally getting his due.
The actor is back to the movies with this week’s big release ‘Gold’ which has an ensemble cast top-lined by Akshay Kumar. In the sports biopic, Amit plays the role of hockey player Ragubir Pratap Singh. Though the film features a bevy of actors, one hopes just like his earlier projects, Sadh will be able to leave a huge mark for himself. Though the actor has not signed any film or made any new announcement, if his other films, which have heavyweights like Tigmanshu Dhulia (‘Yaara’) and Eros International (‘Saat Kadam’) attacheyd to them, release soon after ‘Gold’, it would truly be a sone pe suhaga moment for him.
