Barun Sobti was one of the biggest stars on television who regaled the audience with his performance in shows like ‘Baat Hamaari Pakki Hai’ and ‘Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?’ . At the peak of his stardom, he took a break from television and shifted his focus to films. While his first film ‘Main Aur Mr. Riight’ could not create much of an impact, his second film ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’ garnered a lot of critical acclaim upon its release. The film also re-released in select theatres in Mumbai on public demand. Something similar is about to happen to ’22 Yards’, his most recent film to have released in the theatres.
The sports based film is all set to re-release in Nandan, one of the iconic theatres in Kolkata. And, that’s not all. The film is all set to get a widespread release in Russia on 6th June. The release is expected to be as big as that of a big, mainstream film.
Talking about the same, director Mitali Ghoshal says, “This news came all of a sudden and the entire happy is extremely happy with the developments. Barun is extremely popular not just in India but across the globe. He has several fans in Russia who have loved watching in all his popular TV shows. I am sure they will love the film. It will also be a big opportunity for Amartya Ray, who made his acting debut and also scored the music for this film, to reach out to a global audience.”
Ghoshal hails from Kolkata and is equally elated about the film re-releasing in the city.
“I have grown up in Kolkata and the film is also set there, so it definitely makes me very happy to see it re-releasing it in Nandan Cinema, which is one of the most iconic theatres in the city. I hope who could not watch the film upon its initial release will come to watch it now.”
