Though it’s been a short while since Amika Shail has been working actively in the entertainment industry, she has already made her presence felt by appearing in a bunch of major films, TV shows and web-series. In this interview, the actress talks about her journey in the industry so far.
You were recently a part of a series called ‘Khunnas’ which highlighted the crimes against women.
Yes, ‘Khunnas’ was largely a crime thriller. I played a character in the show who has a casual affair with a driver. After she decides to end her relationship with him, the driver gets very aggressive and creates trouble in her life. The first season ended with the disappearance of my character and that was the cliffhanger which the season came to an end with. The story will continue with the second season.
You have been very fitness conscious in real-life and you have been associated with a South African fitness brand too.
Yes, the brand is called ESN – Evolution Sports Nutrition. They sell supplements. They signed me a couple of months ago as their brand ambassador. Endorsing the brand has been a pleasure as I have always believed in the importance of fit and healthy. Fitness has always been a passion for me and I take it very seriously.
Singing has been a passion for you too.
Yes, I have been singing since I was a child. I have had formal training in Indian classical music. Actually, my focus was always on singing. Destiny took me towards acting and fitness. Right now, acting takes up most of my time but if I get a good opportunity as a singer, I will take it up.
‘Laxmii’ and ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ were two of your biggest projects as an actor recently. Do you think these projects helped in propelling your career forward?
Yes, I believe these projects played a major role in the growth of my career. I was fortunate enough to get these prestigious projects shortly after beginning my career as an actor. Because of these projects, a lot of people got to know me and offered me more work.
One of your recent projects was the web-series ‘Video Call’.
Yes, the show was on Cine Prime Platform. This was my first ever horror series. In the show, I played a girl who is ditched by her boyfriend and, then she is found to be dead under mysterious circumstances. Apart from being a horror series, it had elements of a revenge drama in it.
What are you doing next?
I am working on a big series called ‘Intentions’. It features seasoned actors like Rahul Dev, Ali Asgar and Ruslaan Mumtaz. I got to play a very interesting part in it and keenly looking forward to see how the audience receives the show when it comes out.
