Regardless of their fate at the box-office, all of Imtiaz Ali’s films starting from ‘Socha Na Tha’ to ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ have boasted of some fantastic music. The director has collaborated with a variety of composers like Sandesh Shandilya (‘Socha Na Tha’, ‘Jab We Met – guest composer’), Pritam (‘Jab We Met’, Love Aaj Kal’) and A R Rahman (‘Rockstar’, ‘Hughway’, ‘Tamasha’) and has managed to extract quality music from each of them.
His musical sensibilities seem to have rubbed off on younger brother Sajid Ali who is making his directorial debut with ‘Laila Majnu’, a contemporary retelling of the classic romantic tale. The trailer already showed (or made us hear) glimpses of two brilliant-sounding tracks in the form of “Hafiz Hafiz…”) and “O Meri Laila…” but the makers have released a new song titled “Ahista”. The soft love ballad has been sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi. The song has been set to tune by Niladri Kumar and penned by Irshad Kamil.
The song makes a strong impression with its infectious melody in the very first hearing and makes you want to hear it again and again. The music of the film has been composed by Joi Barua (who had also put together the soundtrack for Sajid’s first/unreleased film ‘Banana’ and classical music maestro Niladri Kumar. All the songs have been written by Irshad Kamil who has been associated with Imtiaz right from his first film.
With the kind of music one has got to hear – snippets of two songs in the trailer and “Ahista” – one cannot wait for the entire album to come out.
