Meri Nimmo – Music Review

Director Rahul Ganore Shanklya’s ‘Meri Nimmo’ was ready for a while and it has finally secured a release for itself on a digital platform. The film deals with a fairly unconventional subject and the soundtrack has just about three songs but as Aanand L Rai’s name is associated with the film, one has decent expectations from the music. Two of the three songs have been composed by Krsna Solo and one has been set to tune by Mangesh Dhakde. All the three songs have been written by Rajshekhar.

“Bulbula” has some imaginative lines written by Rajshekhar which describe the feelings of the six year old Hemu’s (Karan Dave) feelings for Nimmo (Anjali Patil). He uses bulbula (lit: bubble) as an interesting metaphor to describe the kind of innocent but complex infatuation of a child with a much older woman. The orchestra-like arrangements move along well with the free-flowing tune which Paroma Das Gupta does complete justice to with her rendition.

The innocence factor goes a notch higher in “Yeh Bhi Beet Jeeyega”, a song which registers an impact on you as a listener immediately. I felt the song was not mixed or arranged properly as the orchestral arrangements playing in the background seemed to disrupt the vocal track. That definitely acts as an aberration in an otherwise pleasant track. Sukriti Kakar sings well but her anglicised accent seems a little out of a place for a song that required a fair amount of earthiness.

The Mangesh Dhakde composed “Tumse Hi” is the kind of track that would fit in any conventional romantic love story. One is not sure if that is a good thing and whether a film like this needed a mature romantic track. As a standalone audio track, it sounds good and is powered well by Javel Ali’s dulcet singing and Rajshekar’s simple and heart-warming lyrics.

The music of ‘Meri Nimmo’ is pleasant and has the kind of tracks that you would not mind listening to multiple times.
