Lagaan is easily one of the most iconic films made in the history of Hindi cinema. Though cricket was an integral part of the film, it was a film about a bunch of villagers fighting with the Britishers to waive off their lagaan, that is, tax.
Similarly in the recently released Battalion 609, the Indian Army and Pakistan Army are seen playing a cricket match against each other. The film also shows the Indian putting up a brave fight against the Taliban. So, while the film does not revolve around cricket, the sport plays an important role in the film.
People who have already seen the film are comparing it to the Aamir Khan classic and stating that it has used cricket as an effective tool to get even with the enemy. For the makers, it is definitely a matter of pride to be compared to one of the best films of Hindi cinema.
