‘I, Me Aur Main’, which released in 2013, was her last outing as an actress. She did cameos and special songs (like the popular “Aao Raja” from ‘Gabbar Is Back’) but one missed seeing the talented actress in a full-fledged role. During this phase, she was also in news for her separation with husband Jyoti Randhawa, a golfer by profession. The couple had got married in 2001, much before Chitrangada had started her Bollywood career. While she did not speak about the separation in any of her interviews, she did confirm some personal reasons, along with other factors, did compel her to take a break from work.
Putting an end to her sabbatical, she is back with a bang in 2018 with three films, one of which has her credited only has the producer. While ‘Soorma’ marks her debut as a producer, ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3’ will see her return to the big screen as an actress. On the acting front, there is also ‘Baazaar’, directed by Gauravv K Chawla and co-produced by Nikkhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment. The film also stars Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Rohan Mehra.
When asked whether it was difficult to strike a balance between her acting commitments and her duties as a producer on ‘Soorma’, she replies, “There was a bit of a problem at a time. Thankfully, I have a business partner Deepak Singh. Also, Sony Pictures has been on board as producers on this film from day one. I am grateful for them for handling everything so beautifully.”
Soorma, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi and directed by Shaad Ali, releases on 13 July, 2018.
