While one gets to hear very little of traditional Indian melodies in Hindi films, making a period film set in India necessitates the use of such kind of music. ‘Kalank’, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar and directed by Karan Johar, is set in the pre-partition era of India and the film was expected to have traces of traditional music in it. The first song ‘Ghar More Pardesiya’, a semi-classical song, has become extremely popular in little time and the second song ‘First Class’ is expected to follow suit.
This one is very different from the first track which had a devotional feel to it. In ‘First Class’, we see the boisterous Zafar (Varun Dhawan) dancing away to glory with a huge crowd. Kiara Advani joins in soon after and adds another layer to the song with her poise and nazaaqat. Kiara’s classical-based dance moves are in sharp contrast to the robust steps Varun performs. A special mention must be made of all the dancers, accompany the two, who do a wonderful job as well.
The tune, composed by Pritam, is extremely catchy and gets on your lips in no time. Amitabh Bhattacharya adds a mix of fun, insouciance and a hint of romance in the song through his lyrics. Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan have rendered the song very nicely.
