In 2015, ‘Hawaizaada’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, two films featuring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, released 28 days apart from each other. The gap between the actor’s two other films ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ was even lesser. ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ had released on 1 September, 2017, barely two weeks after ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ had arrived in theatres on 18 August, 2017. Out of the aforementioned four films, only ‘Hawaizaada’ was a commercial failure; rest were successes.
The actor finds himself in a similar situation this year too. His new film ‘Badhaai Ho’, a slice-of-life comedy, hits the theatres two weeks after the release of his Sriram Raghavan directed thriller ‘Andhadhun’. ‘Andhadhun’ is on its way to become a sleeper hit and the actor hopes ‘Badhaai Ho’ finds similar success too.
“Ideally, I would like to have to have a wider gap between the release of my films. No actor would want two of his films to be playing in the theatres at the same time. But, this is not something I have control on. There are only a specific number of Fridays in a year and the producers opt for a date which they think is the most suitable to release a film. Despite lesser gap between my releases, I have had a good success rate so far and I hope it continues with ‘Badhaai Ho’.”
The actor is yet to announce his next film but shares what he would like to do next.
“I would love to do a biopic on Kishore Kumar. That has been on my wish list for a very long time. I know a lot of people have tried to make a film out of his life but I hope I am the first one to do it.”, he says.
