Ever since he made his debut in 2010 with Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’, Rajkummar Rao has made a continuous effort to do films across different genres and play characters that compel him to push his boundaries as an actor. No two characters that he has played has been the same and his versatility as an actor has given filmmakers of repute the courage and the conviction to cast him in films that have brought his strengths as an actor to the fore.
In the recent times, especially post the massive success of ‘Stree’ (2018), the actor has also proved that he is not just a good actor but a saleable star too. The success of his films has given him the freedom to experiment further with his roles and choice of cinema. Rao, who had release this Diwali in the form of ‘Made In China’, has two releases next year, ‘Turram Khan’ and ‘Roohi Afza’. There is also the film adaptation of Arvind Adiga’s prize-winning novel ‘The White Tiger’, which is being produced for Netflix.
While ‘Turram Khan’ collaborates him with Hansal Mehta whom he has worked on films like ‘Shahid’ (2013), ‘Citylights’ (2014) and ‘Omerta’ (2018), ‘Roohi Afza’ is being directed by Hardik Mehta whose first film ‘Kaamyaab’, after making rounds of several film festivals across the globe, is eyeing an early 2020 release. In the Netflix original film, he has been paired opposite Priyanka Chopra for the first time. Not much is known about ‘Turram Khan’ but this Ajay Devgn – Luv Ranjan – T-Series produced film is said to be a social comedy. ‘Roohi Afza’, on the other hand is a horror comedy in which he has Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma for company. ‘The White Tiger’ is a hard-hitting drama that, among other issues, makes a commentary on the caste system in India.
With such diverse films in his kitty, 2020 is set to be yet another exciting for this actor who would also be completing ten years in the industry the same year.
