Bollywood is a tough place to be in. Say this to actor Amit Sadh and he will agree. The actor left behind television, a medium which made him a household name and started chasing his dream of seeing himself on the big screen. A few misfires (‘Phoonk 2’, ‘Maximum’) later, he bagged ‘Kai Po Che’, one of the most loved films of 2013 which gave him a good platform to showcase his skills as an actor and find the means to propel his career forward. Amit signed multiple films and was looking forward to a glorious journey ahead.
Unfortunately, what followed next were a couple of films that did not do very well for various reasons and then, there were some like Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Yaara’ and Eros International’s ‘Saat Kadam’ that never saw the light of the day despite being complete. During this phase, what remained constant was Amit’s sincerity as a performer and his thirst for exploring different worlds through the kind of films he chose to do.
In 2016, his performance in the blockbuster ‘Sultan’ received accolades from all corners and the massive success of the film also helped in providing the much-needed boost to his career. The next year, his much delayed film ‘Running Shaadi’ could not do any wonders at the box-office but his performance in the finely crafted period drama ‘Raag Desh’ was highly appreciated by those who saw the film.
The digital revolution was around the corner and this is when Sadh decided to do something in the web space. The show in question was ‘Breathe’. The thriller, co-starring R. Madhavan, streamed on Prime Video, one of the leading players in the segment and became hugely popular amongst the widely expanding base of consumers who watch online content. The same year, Amit had a successful film in ‘Gold’.
Just like last year, this year too, he seems to be working towards striking a balance between films and the digital space as is evident from the choices he has made. While last month, he was seen in a memorable cameo in the Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Super 30’, this month he will be seen in an intense avatar in ‘Barot House’, his first digital film. The trailer of the film has made a solid impression and this might turn out to be another winning performance from him. After this, there is the second season of ‘Breathe’ and another show on the same platform called ‘India Strikes – 10 days’ which he gained 18 kilos for! While no film announcement has been made so far this year, there is always a chance of a ‘Yaara’ or a ‘Saat Kadam’ hitting the screens and turning out to be a surprise success!
With such diverse projects and interesting roles, Amit Sadh is clearly going through one of the best phases of his career.
