CHANDAAL sounds like a "sequel" to SHAPATH; same producer, same actor, Anand-Milind's music. There's even a qawwali by Altaf Raja! Anand-Milind have done an adequate job with catchy tunes, racy rhythms and the singers are all more than competent. However, the album really suffers due to Dev Kohli's cheap and tawdry lyrics!

Altaf Raja and Jasbinder Kaur's qawwali, "Karlo Pyar" is really the album's best bet. So what if it sounds like a rehash of a qawwali from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The lyrics here are okay but Dev Kohli stops trying after this one!

"Peg Patiala Ka" by Sonu Nigam and Jasbinder Kaur has great singing and ear-friendly, punjabi style music, but is let down by, yes you guessed it, the lyrics!

"Buk Chuk"(?) has Abhijeet comparing his girl to vegetables from the local market stall! - What a charmer! Flattery such as this is sure to keep you single!

Things couldn't get any worse - or could they?! Dev Kohli's "poetic" mind then gives us "Ras Malai"(!) sung by Poornima and Vimal(?)Rathod (sounding suspiciously like Vinod Rathod). This song has a fast beat and a catchy melody, but you-know-what spoils it once again.

Poornima's "Chhod De Janeman" initially sounds like it could save the album from being a total wash-out, but when you hear the lyrics, "Apni zid chhod de.....Yeh badan tod de..," there's no escaping the embarrassment factor!

Anand-Milind should choose their lyricists more carefully in future - even Sameer is better than this!
