Ranbir Kapoor - A brilliant actor and a reclusive star
- Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Special Correspondent           Let us know what you think about this article

Ranbir Kapoor was always touted as the next big superstar after the famous khan troika of Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan right from his debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali 'Saawariya' in 2007. It has been more than ten years in the industry for him and he has proven himself to be a brilliant and versatile actor. He has given wonderful performances in variety of films like 'Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year', 'Wake Up! Sid', 'Rajneethi', 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', 'Rockstar' 'Barfi', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' and recently in 'Jagaa Jasoos'. Except two or three films in his career, most of his films have been for a niche audience and belonging to metro city audience. He does not have an all time blockbuster film in his kitty. The box office has not been really favorable to him in the last three years.

In his interviews with media, Ranbir Kapoor has told that he wants to be a superstar but he also knows that he has not reached there. He is a very good looking actor with great dancing skills and the best part is that he emotes well. He does not want him to limit himself as an actor but can he not strike a balance between commercial cinema and niche audience cinema. His choices are different as an actor but they will never allow him to become a superstar.

Ranbir Kapoor needs to learn from the success of actors like Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff. They are doing hardcore masala entertainers and building a fan base for themselves. They have surged ahead at box office. Tiger Shroff's 'Munna Michael' looks more appealing commercially. His closest competitor Ranveer Singh has also been balancing well in his choice of films. Today all young actors are trying different roles and films but they are balancing well in their choices.

Aamir Khan's films have been best example for any actor in the country. His choices of roles and films have been different but he makes sure the film has all commercial ingredients for the audience to enjoy the film. The film has to be entertaining for the audience. Ranbir Kapoor has been playing similar emotionally vulnerable characters in his recent films. Most of his recent films have been short of entertaining the audience. The characters played by him have been less manly. We don't like our male heroes crying too much in the film. He needs to play more macho characters or enjoyable characters. He should not waste his stardom but add more weightage to that.

His grandfather the late Raj Kapoor did make entertaining films which all types of audience could enjoy. His own father Rishi Kapoor has been his biggest critic on his choice of films. He needs to do more commercially viable films. After so many years, if his film doing less than 100 crores business in India then it is a box office failure for him. At his level of popularity, his films should actually do more 200 crores business regularly at box office.

Ranbir Kapoor has worked with best film makers in film industry like Raj Kumar Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Karan Johar, Raj Kumar Santhosi, Prakash Jha, Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap and Imtiaz Ali. He can be really proud of that. His next film is biopic on Sanjay Dutt. This film will be his greatest test as an actor for him. We have seen recently actor Sushant Singh Rajput giving a perfect performance in M.S.Dhoni biopic as Dhoni. Will Ranbir Kapoor match up the mannerisms and body language of Sanjay Dutt? He has been a brilliant actor but a reclusive star.
