2012 – Year of the Khan Trio at Box Office

The final two months will see the big box office battle of the famous Khan Trio. Salman Khan already has a blockbuster in his kitty this year. Shahrukh had seen success with Kolkatta Knight Riders in IPL and Aamir Khan won lot of praise for his revolutionary television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. It will be rare occasion where you will have releases of three big Khan’s in the span of forty five days. The Box Office will see flow of great moolah with them. Sharukh Khan will be under intense radar. His film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jahan’ has been the most awaited film this year. Hoever the last 2 or 3 films of Shahrukh have garnered more criticism than appreciation. Audiences have not accepted him in action roles. They want to see him in romantic roles and Shahrukh Khan is back with that (in JTHJ).

Not to forget, this is the late but legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra’s last film. It will be the first time Shahrukh Khan is pairing with Katrina Kaif although Katrina’s acting can’t be rated highly (she is only good at fun roles in romantic comedies). Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Deepika Padukone and even Anushka Sharma are far better actresses. Yash Chopra’s films always had strong roles for his heroines. Only time will tell if Katrina lives up to the expectation as an actress but she has a significant challenge ahead of her. I somehow feel that Anushka Sharma is going to steal the show from both Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Her character in the film looks more interesting. Shahrukh Khan has an important point to prove. His movie does well in Multiplexes and Overseas. But how is the movie going to fare in Single Theaters in India.

We have another big movie Ajay Devgan starrer Son of Sardar releasing same time. There could be big dent in collections of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ because of this. Recently Salman Khan has also been the clear King of Box Office in India. Shahrukh is also challenged by younger actors Hrithik Roshon and Ranbir Kapoor in Box Office and also Awards Ceremonies. They have been stealing Best Actor Award from him.

Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’ is a suspense thriller. We can expect something different from his film. He has been our trendsetter. His last release was almost two years back. His movie has been a keenly awaited film. We also have two brilliant actresses Rani Mukharjee and Kareena Kapoor part of this film. You can surely expect great performances from them. You can expect a great engaging story from an Aamir Khan film. He knows how to keep his film engaging and entertaining.

Finally Salman Khan ‘Dabangg 2 will release during Christmas. His funda is clear. He doesn’t make films for critics or awards. His movies are for his fans to have a good time. But ‘Dabangg’ has been a cult film and the character Chulbul Pandey had become very popular. So the expectations will be more from ‘Dabangg2’. We will expect bigger high voltage action and more entertaining music. Salman fans will expect good one liner punch lines from him. Now we will have to see which Khan wins the battle of battles in the Box Office this year?
