- Pankaj Kumar Sinha           Let us know what you think about this article

There is a saying that goes 'there is a woman behind every successful man.' In context to the Hindi film industry, it can be said that there is a great film maker behind every successful actor. In the history of the Hindi film industry, we have seen many successful collaborations between actors and directors. Amitabh Bachchan-Manmohan Desai, Rajesh Khanna-Sakthi Samantha, Aamir Khan-Mansoor Khan, Shahrukh Khan-Karan Johar and Govinda-David Dhawan are some of the successful examples of collaborations between an actor and a film maker. Their films together created magic on screen and brought lot of moolah at box office. Today's biggest superstar Salman Khan became a star with his second film 'Maine Pyar Kiya' directed by film maker Sooraj Barjatya in 1989. The film earned a cult status for itself and became one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. Who can forget the memorable line from the movie 'Dosti ka usool hai, No Sorry No Thank You'? With the success of romantic movies like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Maine Pyar Kiya at box office, it changed the phase of Indian cinema. After the success of 'Maine Pyar Kiya', they did two more films together. Their next film 'Hum Aap Ke Hain Koun' in 1994 can be easily called the biggest blockbuster for both Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya. Till date, the music of the film plays great role in our north Indian weddings. Salman Khan has always played the iconic character of 'Prem' for Sooraj Barjatya. The name 'Prem' has been attached to Salman Khan in the same way as 'Vijay' belongs to Amitabh Bachchan. Sooraj Barjatya's films have always been family entertainers which have connected with a large segment of audience.

These characters have helped Salman Khan to grow as actor with each film with him. His last film with Sooraj Barjatya was 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in 1999. It was a super hit film but not as successful as the previous two films. As an audience, I felt Salman Khan should have had more scenes in the film and then it would have had a wider reach. His romantic angle with Sonali Bendre could have been established more. His role as the shy 'Prem' was one of his memorable performances. After that, Sooraj Barjatya has directed two more films with younger actors. But his magic he created with Salman Khan was missing in those films. They are coming back after 16 years with 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' this Diwali. Today Salman Khan is the biggest superstar in the country and in the last 6 to 7 years, box office has been very favourable to him. His fans have been growing and now he has the 'Dabangg' image too.

We will see Salman Khan in his iconic 'Prem' avatar in a Sooraj Barjatya film after so many years. These days, we rarely see a family film being made. 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' is eagerly awaited and this film caters to wide audience ranging from a 6 year old to a 60 year old grandparent. This film is for all ages and will see a wide release across the country. Even before the release of the film we can confidently say the movie is a super hit. The film looks grand and Salman Khan in his royal avatar is looking dashing. The music of the film has that old school melody and the songs are really good. The title track 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and 'Jalte Diye' are the best of the lot. With the success of 'Bajraangi Bhaijaan' earlier this year, Salman Khan already has been loved in an emotional role. Now it is good to see Dabangg Salman Khan getting back to doing emotional roles. He is experimenting in his own style. Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya's 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' is going to create big dhamaka at box office this Diwali.
